Lifeside Trap For those that remember, one of the projects I was working on was the Coal Room Studio. Well it was finished, and is quite nice. Nice enough that a MySpace was made about it [http://www.myspace.com/thecoalroomstud Other projects? Many. But I need a shower. Current mood: Current music: Hiss of the Bass Amp. Wow. My head has been killing me. It's been a "fuck it give up" sort of week. I'm hoping my migraine is because I have a tumor. That would resolve most everything. Current mood: ...Age of Empires III immensely. It's as much fun to play as to just watch even. Brilliant graphics really, though I'm still trying to find the "random new world" type scenario where I just get to build a community and try to survive. I am almost through Act I of the campaigns. New video card is great. Preparing for about 6 weeks worth of business travel. Back and forth on most weekends, but that's a lot of travel. Company gave me a CrackBerry. Didn't really need it, but they insisted because since I'm "client facing" it was determined I should have business cards, which was met by the policy of "no non-company numbers on company business cards" which translated into "just get him a BlackBerry." Makes no sense really, I'm hardly without my laptop. I'd use it as nothing more than a phone I think. Off to Texas on Monday... I have too much work to do. And my shoulder & arm are hurting real bad this week. Going to doctor tomorrow. Current mood: Current music: XXC3Crew. So, I bought Age of Empires III not so long ago, because I love that series. Really, I can get lost in it for hours. Some of you understand, some of you don't. But when I fired it up with my GeForce video card it was crappy, so I looked up some data on Microsoft and it told me that my video card is not compatible with Age of Empires III. WTF? It's not like I had some doofy ass 16 color circa 1992 video card man, it's a fucking GeForce. Not to be outdone... I actually added a new video card just to be able to play AoEIII. That is a level of geek that few can match. Sometimes I'm just a kid. So...let's see how it works, yes? SUCCESS!!! Current mood: Current music: StudioKraft. It's late but I'm a bit bouncy. Or maybe I'm just high on paint fumes, not sure. Either way, all of the stone walls in the basement, aka soon to be christened Coal Room Studio, are double-coated. ![]() ![]() Considering doing a third. I'll have to do three coats on the stairs' walls however, because it was previously gloss paint. ![]() I'm messing around with some ideas for the studio's logo. I pulled some pics of the chemical structure of anthracite (coal) that I may incorporate somehow. My favorite so far is this one. ![]() The show at Hank's Salloon last night was good. I'm pleased with myself. ![]()
Current mood: Current music: A Too Loud Fan. ![]() Bitter Grace headline at Hank's Salloon 46 Third Avenue (Corner of Atlantic Ave) Brooklyn, NY, 11201 ON: April 26th 2008 Current mood: Current music: Smashmouth. For years, I had a small coal room in my home in South River, surrounded by solid brick, underground - small but enough. I envisioned there a rustic but modernly-equipped small studio for my musical endeavors. I envisioned myself mixing and creating industrial stomp-happy tracks under a pseudo-name I'd never own up to... Flash to 2008. I play bass for Bitter Grace as everyone knows, and I am not living in the SR house as it stands now. I am however living back in my old home in Linden. Yesterday, pushed forth by a discussion with the band after rehearsal in the tightly spaced office, I spent the day moving around furniture with friends and planning a dream. Coal Room Studio - same name...different locale. This week I go shopping for a 16-track mixing center, PA system with monitor & speaker hook up, maybe a new guitar amp (bass amp already there). It's cleared out now to begin building a dream in. ![]() Up until yesterday, the basement and the attic were the only two floors of the Linden house I haven't gone through since Dad passed away little over a year ago and I took up residence here again. Because I was moving things around in the basement, I also felt inclined to delve into the attic as well because a pile of my brother's things left behind when he went out to California were in the basement. I wanted to transport them into the attic for storage. That in turn begot the need of cleaning out the attic. The attic held things I haven't seen in years. Such as bins worth of G.I.Joe action figures and sets, which I have yet to decide if I'm someday going to give to Joshua or keep and Ebay or something. ![]() Some time ago I wrote an essay about just this sort of thing. It ran in Legends #109. The basement held it's own sort of charming remembrances, such as this carving on the fireplace mantle which I got in major trouble with when I was a kid. ![]() I managed to clean up the attic so it is now a plausible storage zone where I know everything there and have room to store more some day. ![]() So the attic is done. The basement will be painted and christened Coal Room Studio. And I shall complete a dream. Also, my cat is evil, but I knew that already.
Current mood: accomplished. Current music: The Invincible Spirit. ...what to do today. 1) PC/Pan work (i.e. transcribing this here journal for one, going through old essays and trying to organize them, BG website, etc.) 2) Bass work (i.e. complete the writing of new songs like Firefly, Hands On My Skin, Three Little Stars, etc.) 3) SNC work (i.e. the new client documentation, overview training decks, etc.) 4) Linden House work (i.e. Spring clean-up, replace front door hardware & paint it, etc.) Hmm. That's a tough one. I think I'll keep drinking Corona and see if I can figure it out in due time. Current mood: Current music: Pearl Jam. I got the driveway construction started. ![]() Pleased with that even if I did have to part with a pile of money. Driveway was always a mess, there's always been this horrible walkway along the left side of it that was just a horror. And then when the neighbor did their pavers in their driveway all they did was put some cement patch up against the dirt because mine was higher and when that failed the walkway got worse. Fuck walkways. It's gone. Two retaining walls against the lawn, and a real retaining wall this time (not concrete patchwork) against the drop to the neighbor's driveway. Will look nice. New asphalt, risen about 3 inches higher than before. Joshua says he should have it done in about 14 months. ![]() Haven't practiced since Friday night, I went a day without bass practice, and that's just bad. On April 6th I said: 1) Practice bass. 2) Track/balance my finances. 3) Write in this here journal. These were the three things I wanted to do every day. I suppose I'm not too far off anyway... Wish my arm would stop hurting. Current mood: productive. Current music: Matisyahu. |
